Born and raised in northern Michigan, Ethan has been fishing the area as long as he can remember. Ethan gained his passion for fly fishing after casting his first flies on the legendary Au Sable River. During his college years, Ethan fished the western Michigan tributaries extensively for trout, salmon and steelhead, spending as much time in waders as in the lecture hall. His love for cold water resources and protecting the fisheries he treasures led Ethan to founding and serving as President of the first collegiate affiliate of Trout Unlimited in the nation, Ferris Trout Unlimited. This initative helped ford the waters towards the creation of TU's Costa 5 Rivers Club program in use today.
After graduating from Ferris State University, his passion for the sport took him to Sweetwater Travel Company's Fly Fishing Guide School outside of Livingston, Montana where he gained even more knowledge and skills required of today's professional guides. Eventually, one thing led to another, and Ethan cut his teeth as an Alaskan guide at Kulik Lodge of the Bristol Bay region chasing big Alaskan 'bows.
However, his love for northern Michigan and its intimate fisheries brought him back to Boyne Country. As the Director of Operations for Boyne Outfitters, Ethan is able to introduce people to the cherished waters and fishing he has enjoyed for much of his life.
Ethan currently holds a Captain's License with the United States Coast Guard. He is a SAGE Elite Pro, Fly Designer and Pro Staffer for Catch Fly Fishing, and a field advisor for several other major manufacturers. Ethan serves as the Vice President for the Headwaters Chapter of Trout Unlimited, is a board member with Friends of the Jordan River Watershed, and a member of the Ruffed Grouse Society. He also served as an ambassador for several years to Huron Pines, as well as a fisheries adviser to groups such as the Friends of the Boyne River. Ethan enjoys teaching beginners and pushes advanced anglers to hone their skills on the water. If you are new to the sport, or have a passion as strong as his, Ethan will make sure you have an enjoyable experience on the water.

From small creek brookies behind his childhood home - to the smallies, esox and salmo species of the big waters - Drew has always had a rod in his hand. In time, his passion for fishing has only amplified. Recently, that craving has manifested with an obsession for fly fishing. Drew is eager to share his growing knowledge with friends, family and Boyne Outfitters' guests.
Enjoying our wild places in northern Michigan influenced Drew to give back. Drew is a member of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers, and Ducks Unlimited. Growing up in mid-Michigan, Brian started fishing at a young age on his grandparents pond for a multitude of warmwater species. This instilled a great passion for the outdoors early on in his life. Throughout high school, Brian's time - like many others - was spent in athletics rather than on the water. However, when a close friend introduced Brian to the Pere Marquette steelhead game on the fly - that all changed. Throughout college Brian played football for Grand Valley, however, more-often-than-not he found himself racking miles on his odometer heading north to chase trout. Exploring small trout fisheries in the summer, and salmon and steelhead throughout the cooler months gave Brian a great base to build upon. His passion is sharing our states' rich history in fly fishing & the outdoors, and providing unforgettable experiences for our guests.

After a ten-year sabbatical from the fly fishing industry in order to focus on some of the finer things in life - family - Greg joined the Boyne Outfitters crew in 2013, and has been an asset ever since. Greg's experience stems from guiding stints for Streamside Orvis in Traverse City, and the former Whipporwill Orvis in Petoskey, where he leared the northern Michigan waters and fine-tuned his skills with a fly rod. He even sports a handmade McKenzie-style drifter which he floats on our waters.
Greg loves the lyrical side of angling, where he has had works featured in Fly Rod & Reel, Gray's Sporting Journal, and Sporting Classics to name a few. During the off-season, Greg teaches elementary education, where his patience and teaching abilities from such... truly shine through in his guiding.
Greg lives in Petoskey with his wife and two daughters.

Tim's fascination with fly fishing began right here in northern Michigan - growing up no more than a few miles away from the beautiful Jordan River. Throughout his childhood, Tim chased trout, salmon and steelhead at every chance in which he considers 'the most pristine waters the Midwest has to offer'. As he matured, so did his passion and love for the sport. After graduating from high school, Tim attended Sweetwater Travel Company's Fly Fishing Guide School in Livingston, Montana where he obtained the skills and knowledge required to turn his passion into a career - his lifelong dream.
Tim started his guide career at Boyne Outfitters serval years ago, so no matter where he goes, he is still always welcome to come home. Therefore, Tim guides at Boyne Outfitters during his "off seasons" from his other guide pursuits. He recently spent a couple summers guiding for Westbank Anglers in Jackson Hole. This summer, he will be heading to Alaska.
Tim greatly enjoys introducing newcomers to the outdoors and fly fishing alike. During his spare time, Tim enjoys learning new waters and advancing the proficiency of his craft. Tim guides for Boyne Outfitters during the months of March, April and May.

Paul is a great example of "living the 'Boyne Lifestyle.'" His passion for the outdoors has taken him from Costa Rica to Alaska, the mountains of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, plus many places in between! He grew up on the "big water" of Port Huron and then moved across state to finish college in Kalamazoo. His professional career took him to Metro Detroit where he lived for 32 years in Birmingham/ Bloomfield. In November of 2014, his wife suggested they relocate their family to their Boyne Mountain home and the rest is history.
Introduced to fly fishing in 1994 while on a steelhead trip to a "blown out" Pere Marquette river, he instantly fell in love with the beauty of one of Michigan's most famous rivers. Being brand new to fly fishing, he didn't know the fishing day was a total bust, but he was permanently hooked on the experience and the feeling of the river.
Now a northern Michigan resident, Paul enjoys many of the areas pleasures. Spring & Summer brings golf, tennis, paddle boards and mountain bikes. Fall & Winter brings bows, guns and skis - But fishing is always in season! Trout, salmon, steelhead, carp, brookies, bass and pike - there is always something to chase. Even in the shoulder seasons when others are looking out their windows wishing they had an excuse to get outside... Fishing is the excuse!
Paul is a 32+ year veteran in the financial services industry and is married with 4 children. His youngest two boys attend Boyne City High School where he helps coach the golf and tennis teams.

Jake grew up fishing the classic trout waters of Montana. When he was 12, in an attempt to get Jake to sit still, his parents purchased him his first fly tying kit...that was all it took! Since then, Jake has been fascinated with all aspects of fly fishing including water ecology, entomology, fly tying, and of course...catching fish!
While attending college, Jake obtained his first guide position on the Wind River in Wyoming. It was there that Jake discovered the satisfaction he gained from helping clients have a successful day on the water... as well as providing them with an enjoyable and memorable experience. In addition to the Wind River, Jake guided clients across Montana. Jake also spent several summer as the head guide at Dave & Kim Egdorf's Western Alaska Sportfishing camp on the 'Upper Nush', as well as helping his father with another Alaskan operation on the lower Nushagak.
Jake taught elementary education and coached for nearly a decade in western Montana, and continued to guide each summer season. In order to raise their two boys in northern Michigan, Jake and his wife relocated. In addition to his skills on the water, Jake is the lead-craftsman for Great Lakes Reclaimed. Jake has been with Boyne Outfitters since 2014.

Dakota grew up in Midland, however, his family cottages in Kalkaska and on Saginaw Bay offered him great access to quality water from a young age. While he spent his summers trolling for walleye and chasin' bass, at age 11 he was given a fly rod and fly tying kit - he was hooked! With todays' technology, Dakota taught himself basic casting via online videos, and after he caught enough bass on the fly, his uncle introduced him to trout fishing on the Upper Manistee. From that point forward, he has fished nearly exclusively with a fly rod in hand.
Dakota landed a gig at Riversong Lodge in Alaska where he polished his skills on trout and salmon. However, he returned home to attend school and focus his angling efforts on northern Michigan's famed fisheries. He is currently building a McKenzie-style drift boat which he is looking forward to rowing on our waters. Dakota has been a featured author in Woods-N-Water News, and when he's not on the water, he enjoys chasin' grouse in the northwoods.

With a family cottage in northern Michigan, Matthew grew up fishing the Jordan Valley and the surrounding streams and inland lakes during his childhood. With a solid base, he has traveled all over Michigan fishing for trout, salmon and steelhead. However, his favorite quarry is chasing brown trout, and he has devoted the majority of his free time to researching and learning more about these wonderful creatures. Matthew has expanded on his fishing experience from California to Florida for a variety of saltwater species as well. Matthew also operates his own river blog, MichiganHooks, for his childhood home rivers in southeast Michigan. Matthew is currently purusing a degree in graphic design at Oakland University.
Matthew is excited to join the team at Boyne Outfitter! He is looking forward to expanding and sharing his knowledge on the water with guests!

Luna is a traditional field-bred golden retriever that comes to us all the way from Maplehills Kennel in western Wisconsin. She loves two things more than anything...bird-hunting & fishing. She has been riding in drift boats since she was just a small pup, and started chasin' birds not long after. She loves searching for grouse in the north woods, but her favorite thing is bustin' roosters whenever she gets the chance. Since she is with Ethan pretty much all of the time, she is in the shop most days and enjoys when people come to see her, even though she still has a crazy puppy demeanor she hasn't quite kicked yet!
