Born and raised in northern Michigan, Ethan has been fishing the area as long as he can remember. Ethan gained his passion for fly fishing after casting his first flies on the legendary Au Sable River. During college, Ethan fished the western Michigan tributaries extensively for trout, salmon and steelhead, spending as much time in waders as in the lecture hall. His love for cold water resources and protecting the fisheries he loves led Ethan to founding and serving as President of the first collegiate affiliate of Trout Unlimited in the nation, Ferris Trout Unlimited.
After graduating from Ferris State University, his passion for the sport took him to Sweetwater Travel Company's Fly Fishing Guide School outside of Livingston, Montana where he gained even more knowledge and skills required of today's professional guides. Eventually, one thing led to another, and Ethan cut his teeth as an Alaskan guide at Kulik Lodge of the Bristol Bay region chasing big Alaskan 'bows.
However, his love for northern Michigan and its intimate fisheries brought him back to Boyne Country. As the Director of Operations for Boyne Outfitters, Ethan is able to introduce people to the cherished waters and fishing he has enjoyed for much of his life.
Ethan currently holds a Captain's License with the United States Coast Guard. He is a SAGE Elite Pro and field advisor for several major manufacturers. He is a member of Trout Unlimited, the Ruffed Grouse Society, and has served as a fisheries consultant to groups such as Friends of the Jordan River Watershed, Friends of the Boyne River, and Huron Pines. Ethan enjoys teaching beginners and pushes advanced anglers to hone their skills on the water. If you are new to the sport, or have a passion as strong as his, Ethan will make sure you have an enjoyable experience on the water.

Andrew grew up in the metro Detroit area, but he spent his summers longing for the next camping and fishing trip to northern Michigan. This is where his passion for fishing first began. Like many early on, Andrew focused on lake fishing for bass, pike and other warm water species. However, a decade ago Andrew was introduced to his first fly rod on the banks of the Au Sable River. Since that time, Andrew has put nearly all his effort into chasing trout, steelhead, and salmon on the fly. While attending Michigan State University, Andrew was a member of the MSU Fishing Club, which fueled his passion for fly fishing even more. After graduating from MSU Andrew decided to pursue his passion of fly fishing and the outdoors and turn his "hobby" into a lifestyle and career. By making the move to Boyne Country and joining Boyne Outfitters, Andrew intends to develop his skills...focusing on the intimate fisheries of northern Michigan...and grow as an angler. But most importantly...share his passion with our guests!
You'll likely see Andrew on a regular basis in the shop, as he supervises our retail sales and keeps the brick and mortar up and running.

Greg comes to Boyne Outfitters after taking a ten-year sabbatical from the fly fishing industry in order to focus on some of the finer things in life - family. Living in Petoskey with his wife and two girls, Greg knows the local waters. Greg's experience stems from guiding stints for Streamside Orvis located in Traverse City, and the former Whippoorwill Orvis in Petoskey where he learned the northern Michigan waters and fine-tuned his skills with a fly rod. He even has a handmade McKenzie-style drifter that he floats on our waters. Greg loves the lyrical side of angling, where he has had works featured in Fly Rod & Reel, Gray's Sporting Journal, and Sporting Classics to name a few. During the off-season, Greg teaches fourth-grade elementary where his patience and teaching abilities from such truly shine in his guiding.

Jake grew up fishing the classic trout waters of Montana. When he was 12, in an attempt to get Jake to sit still, his parents purchased him his first fly tying kit...that was all it took! Since then, Jake has been fascinated with all aspects of fly fishing including water ecology, entomology, fly tying, and of course...catching fish! While attending college, Jake obtained his first guide position on the Wind River in Wyoming. It was there that Jake discovered the satisfaction he gained from helping clients have a successful day on the water, as well as providing them with an enjoyable and memorable experience. In addition the Wind River, Jake has guided clients across Montana as well as spending several summers in the land of the midnight sun...Alaska. Jake has been a teacher and coach for the last seven years in western Montana and has continued to guide each summer. In order to raise their two boys in northern Michigan, Jake and his wife have relocated to the area. Jake is excited to continue his guiding career with Boyne Outfitters!

Paul is a great example of "living the 'Boyne Lifestyle.'" His passion for the outdoors has taken him from Costa Rica to Alaska, the mountains of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, plus many places in between! He grew up on the "big water" of Port Huron and then moved across state to finish college in Kalamazoo. His professional career took him to Metro Detroit where he lived for 32 years in Birmingham/ Bloomfield. In November of 2014, his wife suggested they relocate their family to their Boyne Mountain home and the rest is history.
Introduced to fly fishing in 1994 while on a steelhead trip to a "blown out" Pere Marquette river, he instantly fell in love with the beauty of one of Michigan's most famous rivers. Being brand new to fly fishing, he didn't know the fishing day was a total bust, but he was permanently hooked on the experience and the feeling of the river.
Now a northern Michigan resident, Paul enjoys many of the areas pleasures. Spring & Summer brings golf, tennis, paddle boards and mountain bikes. Fall & Winter brings bows, guns and skis - But fishing is always in season! Trout, salmon, steelhead, carp, brookies, bass and pike - there is always something to chase. Even in the shoulder seasons when others are looking out their windows wishing they had an excuse to get outside... Fishing is the excuse!
Paul is a 32+ year veteran in the financial services industry and is married with 4 children. His youngest two boys attend Boyne City High School where he helps coach the golf and tennis teams.
Raised in Grand Rapids, Bobby spent his early years fishing the lakes and rivers surrounding his neighborhood. As time pushed forward, he moved on to fishing larger lakes and rivers, and by the time he hit high school, Bobby was fly fishing exclusively. From the Rogue to the Coldwater, he fished all over Grand Rapids and the surrounding areas, chasing trout and smallmouth bass.
After High School, Bobby's passion for the sport drove him to travel and fish the legendary rivers of the west - including the Colorado, Madison & Gallatin. His most recent travels have taken him to fish the technical waters of the Smokey Mountains chasin' wild trout in skinny Appalachian streams.
Bobby currently calls Marquette home, where he is pursuing a degree in Environmental Studies and Sustainability at Northern Michigan University. His free time is spent frequenting the Yellowdog, Carp & Chocolay Rivers to wet a line, tying flies, and reading books to expand his knowledge of fly fishing.
Bobby is excited to start his guiding career with Boyne Outfitters!

Dillon was born and raised in southeast Michigan... "downriver" as they say. He first fell in love with fishing as a young boy - spending summers catching bass and bluegill with his father.
Dillon moved on to study Geology at Wayne State University which led him to spend his summers working north of Fairbanks, Alaska. It was here where he was introduced to fly fishing for the first time and has been hooked ever since. Dillon has always been very involved in the outdoors - including backpacking, hunting, and field work - so the leap into fly fishing was a natural progression. In Alaska, he chased everything from Arctic Grayling on the Chatanika River, to Sockeye Salmon and 'Bows in the Copper. Driving home following his final summer, he had plenty of opportunities to explore new fishing haunts from Washington to Michigan.
Dillon's passion for fly fishing is most evident when introducing new folks to the sport, as he is always happy to explain the fundamentals, techniques, and most of all...making sure they have as much fun as he does.
Once back in Michigan, Dillon made the move to Boyne Country to live and work as a guide, where he will be able to share his enthusiasm for fly fishing with others on the intimate waters of northern Michigan.

Luna is a traditional field-bred golden retriever that comes to us all the way from Maplehills Kennel in western Wisconsin. She loves two things more than anything...bird-hunting & fishing. She has been riding in drift boats since she was just a small pup, and started chasin' birds not long after. She loves searching for grouse in the north woods, but her favorite thing is bustin' roosters whenever she gets the chance. Since she is with Ethan pretty much all of the time, she is in the shop most days and enjoys when people come to see her, even though she still has a crazy puppy demeanor she hasn't quite kicked yet!
