River Report - December 4, 2015
Well since we are located at a ski resort, I have to say that the weather patterns have been unfortunate for snow making capabilities and natural snowfall. However, I am happy to say that Boyne Mountain Resort is open this weekend. In terms of opening for the season, it will depend on temperatures and mother nature.
Although the weather has not been so great for those ready to hit the slopes, it has been fantastic in terms of fishing opportunities! And I have to say, the fishing now is some of the best it has been all fall. Steelhead are in all the systems, and in fairly good numbers. Fall brown trout fishing is doing great - some days better than others - but the fall streamer fishing has been doing well. Don't be afraid to go into the more seculuded, less pressured stretches this time of year, as they have been fishing better than the trophy waters where every angler has been throwin meat for the last few months.
Atlantic salmon fishing on Torch has been doing well. A cold spell will help things along, but we can't complain about the fishing there this fall. Go with light colors and clear patterns.
Splake fishing is GREAT. The lakes are still open, even with a little ice on the edge on some of the colder
days. But for the most part, you can still get a boat in or wade the edges. Leech patterns and small baitfish stripped fairly quickly with a pause have been producing.
All in all, the late fall fishing is pretty darn good right now. And with the forecast, it looks like it will continue to hold on for the foreseeable future. Don't hang up those waders yet, we have plenty of fishing left in 2015!
