Guide Trips

Fly Fishing

At Boyne Outfitters, we offer trips designed to suit every angler. Whether it's pursuing wild trout on one of our local rivers, sight-casting to smallmouth on the flats, or a peaceful experience at our exclusive EK Preserve, you're guaranteed a wonderful day on the water. Our patient, knowledgeable guides will ensure you walk away with a smile! Northern Michigan fly fishing is our specialty, however, our fishing expertise extends well beyond Boyne Country and we are fully stocked year round to provide an experience that you will not soon forget.

Guide Trips Descriptions

Walk & Wade Trips

Some days, the best fly fishing is done on foot...slowly dissecting each run, riffle and pool, one step at a time.  Our walk & wade trips are a great way for you and your friends to hike up some waders and explore Northern Michigan's world-class fisheries up close and personal...all while surrounding yourself with some of the best scenery "Up North" has to offer.

Float Trips

For anglers seeking solitude, unpressured trout and incredible scenery, a guided fly fishing float trip offers opportunities that can't be duplicated while wade fishing.  A guided float trip offers access to more areas that can only be reached by boat and gives anglers a chance to cover miles of productive water in a single day.

Twilight Floats

Do you geek out on late-night mayfly spinner falls?  Are you looking for that heart-pumping explosion from trophy Brown Trout smashing top water flies in the dark?  These floats are designed for the angler looking for all those things that go bump in the night.

Great Lakes Flats

Long known as a best-kept secret, the shallow shoals of the northern Great Lakes provide harbor for scrappy smallmouth, spooky carp, and voracious northern pike. Gorgeous scenery and crystal clear blue waters, relatively untouched by modern human development will transport you to a caribbean-like state-of-mind while exploring the unsalted waters of the northern Great Lakes flats.

Inland Lakes

The inland lakes of northern Michigan are unrivaled. Although Torch Lake was rumored to be named the 3rd Best Lake in the world by National Geographic (Michigan's "little slice of the Caribbean"), and Lake Charlevoix was named 'America's Second Best Lake' according to USA Today, it's the world-record fishing that has anglers interested. Northern Michigan's inland lakes have produced numerous IGFA world-records for Atlantic Salmon & Smallmouth Bass, and several state-record muskies.

Additional Information

Reservations

Reservations are encouraged a minimum 72 hours in advance for guided trips, however we will do our best to accommodate trips with less notice.  A credit card is required to confirm your reservation.  A $249 deposit is required for each guided trip and is non-refundable nor transferable.  All reservations made within 7 days are charged the total trip cost at the time of booking.

Cancellation Policy

All guided trips have a 7 day cancellation policy. Any cancellation within 7 days will result in a 100% charge.

Weather

Unfortunately, we cannot control the weather; luckily the fish don't tend to mind a little drizzle or snow.  Therefore, we fish in all weather conditions except those that the guide determines to be dangerous.  Weather in northern Michigan can change extremely quickly so please be prepared and dress for all weather.  Layering is very important.  Please check the local forecast before your trip.

Wader Rental

We offer a Simms waders rental program for $49/day.

Michigan Fishing License

You must purchase a fishing license if you are 17 years of age or older to fish.  If you are under 17, you may fish without a license, but you are required to observe all fishing rules and regulations.  24-hours, 72-hour, and annual license are available at our fly shop or online.

Beverages

Water is included with all guided trips via clean, reusable bottles, in partnership with Costa's Kick Plastic movement.  If you wish to sip whiskey out of an ol' tin cup or have a glass of wine with your grilled shore lunch, you must provide your own alcohol.  Alcoholic beverages may be purchased prior to your trip from several outlets located at Boyne Mountain Resort.

What's Included

All of our trips include the necessary gear to enjoy your day on the water! Guides will provide rods and reels based on the targeted species and techniques. We offer a Simms waders rental program for $49/day.

Catch & Release

Catch and release is a commendable and necessary practice that benefits us and future generations.  Without catch and release, some fisheries would simply not survive, so conscientious anglers strictly follow rules requiring the practice.  Most of our fisheries depend on wild reproduction, so we do our best to help nature continue this.  Therefore, all Boyne Outfitters trips are catch & release fishing only.

Hopefully here we have the answers to all your questions.
